May First Movement Technology is required, by New York State law, to have a Board of Directors that makes decisions for the organization. Our membership has already defined this body's role.

According to the by-laws we approved, our Board is elected by our members for three year terms and is responsible for:

  1. managing the business, property, affairs and activities of the organization
  2. conducting a democratic, participatory membership meeting
  3. providing strategic direction for the organization

To qualify as a Board member,

  1. You must be 18 years old and a member of May First Movement Technology, that includes both individual members and members of organizations that are members.
  2. You must commit to participate in eight on-line meetings a year. These will usually last an hour and a half.
  3. You must attend our Membership Meetings
  4. You must commit to participating in email exchanges. Although the Board is expected to name a committee to meet more frequently to deal with business as it arises, the Board will be consulted on issues and problems that arise and that the working groups it has named don't feel comfortable handling without Board direction. Given both these types of decisions and the information the Board might need, you can expect emails at least once a month.
  5. You must allow May First to identify you as a Board member.
