Brandon is the National Organizer for Internet Rights at MediaJustice. Brandon has been an educator and organizer for over a decade working on a broad range of issue areas, geographic areas and campaign sizes from local community campaigns to nationwide days of action. He was a founding member of the Global African Worker editorial collective, creating an intersectional space for thoughts and reflections for, about and by the Black diaspora and African peoples. Brandon is fighting for a just and liberated world where everyone has the opportunity to seek out safe community and live out the full expression of their inherent dignity. He is originally from Wichita, Kansas and holds a B.A. in International Political Economy from the University of Puget Sound.
My vision is for a future where useful technology serves communities instead of technology exploiting communities for the sake of commerce and social control. I imagine a world where networked technologies help to connect us to one another, to our communities, to the land, to our individual and collective stories and to ourselves, not a future where networked technology is used for surveillance and super-exploitation beyond even the extractive dialectic of labor and capital. I imagine a world where technosolutionism has gone to die. A world where technological oligarchs and the myth that they are our wise world-builders no longer exist. I imagine a future of Black liberation that is Queer as Fuck. A future free from oppression. I think May First has an important role to play in both showing up for other issues while also bringing other revolutionary and liberation minded folks closer into the conversations about the role of technology in our society. My vision for May First is one where we have an important role to play in defending our communities, fighting against the cancerous growths of corporate and state technology and also in building and building support for alternatives to corporate technology.
